Check a Fendo report
What is checked
- The photo is the original. Each photo is stored in the PDF exactly as the phone saved it. Its SHA-256 fingerprint is worked out again here and compared with the one printed under it. One changed pixel gives a different fingerprint.
- The photo existed at that time. As each photo was taken, its fingerprint was sent to Fendo's time-stamp server, which signed the fingerprint with the time. The signature is checked with that server. Nobody can make a valid signature for an earlier time, and the renter's phone clock plays no part in it.
- A photo you hold. Add a photo file (for example one the renter sent you) and it is matched against the originals in the report. Photos sent through messaging apps are usually re-compressed and will not match; ask for the original file or the PDF.
Nothing is uploaded. The PDF and photos stay in this browser; only each photo's fingerprint, time and signature are sent to the time-stamp server to be checked. A valid signature shows when the photo existed, not what it shows: look at the photos themselves for the condition of the car.
